Skilled Hearts Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of young adults with special needs by equipping them with the tools, training, and support necessary to transition from the classroom to the workforce.

 

Our mission is to empower these individuals to become confident, independent, and productive members of society.

Founded by Sherry Propst, a passionate educator with over 30 years of experience in special education, Skilled Hearts Inc. is led by a team with diverse backgrounds in corporate management, nonprofit leadership, and inclusive education. Together, we bring a unique blend of professional expertise and heartfelt commitment to addressing the challenges faced by this underserved population.

Our programs are designed to deliver practical job training, life skills coaching, and personalized support, all within a safe, inclusive environment. At the core of our approach is The Crafted Cup, which will be Phase 3 of our project—a welcoming coffee shop and creative space where individuals can come to craft, shop, and connect. Operated by program participants under professional guidance, The Crafted Cup will provide real-world experience and serve as a powerful symbol of inclusion in action.

Beyond training, Skilled Hearts fosters strong community partnerships, engaging businesses, families, and local leaders to build an inclusive society where all individuals are recognized for their abilities.

We aim to train and empower at least 100 young adults within our first three years, establishing employment pathways through hands-on experience, mentorship, and advocacy. Skilled Hearts Inc. is more than a program, it’s a movement toward greater inclusion, opportunity, and dignity for all.
